U.S. succeeds in sixth-straight Chamberlain Cup: Dirt Track Racing

The United States won the Chamberlain Cup as the top country in motocross racing, for the sixth consecutive year.

At Thunder Valley, Colorado on Sunday, the U.S. team of Ryan Dungey, Trey Canard and Andrew Short won the 2010 FIM Red Bull Motocross of Nations. The U.S. beat 19 other countries in what was only the third time the race has been held in the U.S. and it was the first time the 64-year-old event has been held in the Western U.S.

As it was decided in the last of three finals, it was an exciting finish. Fighting off challenges from the Belgian and German teams, Dungey and Short finished 1-2 among 40 competitors.

Canard said, “Ryan just killed it (Sunday). It was amazing to watch.”

The veteran member of the U.S. squad, Dungey paced the U.S. team’s victory by finishing first in both of his events (each competitor races in two of the three finals). In the team’s win in Italy in 2009, Dungey also was a central figure.

Dungey, a four-time AMA champion since turning pro in 2006 said, “It was a lot of effort and a lot of hard work. Our team had to get together and make a game plan, and it seemed like we all worked together, which helped a lot.”

Dirt Track Racing – Preview – Super DIRT Week

Coming this fall is Super DIRT Week is a packed week of dirt track racing at the “Moody Mile” at the New York State Fairgrounds.

In the sport of dirt track racing, this is one of the biggest events so there isn’t much time for newcomers to practice, especially with the Syracuse 200 on October 10.

For racers to gain experience at Syracuse to compete against each other, DIRTcar Racing officials created the DIRTcar Futures event. The DIRTcar Futures races give full fender and open-wheel racers a chance to practice competing and put the spotlight fully on them.

For practice and qualifying, First there is one combined session, then the 358-Modified and Sportsman Modified Futures events will be on Thursday, October 7. DIRTcar Pro Stock rookie races and Big-Block Modified will be featured on Friday, October 8.

There were almost twenty-first time sign-ups for the Big-Block and 358 divisions last year, according to DIRTcar Racking Northeast Region General Manager Cory Reed. In the Sportsman ranks, over 40 registered causing them to have two races.

For the drivers, he also mentioned that this even takes away the stress and pressure because they don’t have to qualify for features in each class; they competing won’t make them lose their rookie status and they can go right to Super DIRT Week championship events.

On Wednesday, October 6, starts the Super DIRT Week with a ‘Happy Hour’ and runs through the following Sunday with the Syracuse 200 Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified Championship starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 10.
